Salt dough decorations
Shape salt dough decorations to bake and paint, for a holiday, a birthday or a gift.
You need
- 2 cups (250 g) flour
- 1 cup (300 g) fine salt
- ¾ cup (180 ml) water
- a rolling pin or a bottle
- cookie cutters or a cup, and a straw
- paints, for another day
Steps
- Mix the flour, salt and water in a bowl, then knead until smooth.
- Roll the dough out about 5 mm (¼ in) thick.
- Let the children press out shapes with the cookie cutters or the rim of a cup.
- Make a hole near the top of each shape with the straw, for a string later.
- Bake the shapes on a lined tray at 120 °C (250 °F) for 2–3 hours. Paint them another day.
Salt dough is very salty and is not food: no one eats it. Only an adult uses the oven.
